Labh Pancham 2026 in Fiji falls on Saturday 14 November. It is the fifth day of the new year in the Gujarati calendar. For many families and business owners in Fiji, it is the day the Diwali season closes and the working year begins again.
Diwali night gets the lights and the sweets. Labh Pancham is quieter, but for many Gujarati families it matters just as much: shops reopen, new account books are blessed, and many people mark the day with a small piece of gold. Here's what to know this year.
Labh Pancham 2026 date in Fiji
| Day | 2026 date in Fiji | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dhanteras | Around Friday 6 November | Approximate, check with your temple |
| Diwali public holiday | Monday 9 November | Endorsed by Cabinet |
| Labh Pancham | Saturday 14 November | Fifth day of the Gujarati new year |
Labh Pancham falls on the fifth day (panchami) of the bright half of Kartik. In Fiji time, this year's panchami runs from early Saturday morning into Sunday morning, so the whole of Saturday falls on the day. If your family keeps a particular muhurat for puja or for buying, check it with your pandit or temple. Our Diwali 2026 guide has all the festival dates in one place.
What Labh Pancham means
"Labh" means profit or benefit, and "pancham" means fifth. The day is also called Saubhagya Panchami, the fifth day of good fortune. In the Jain community it is Gyan Panchami, a day for honouring knowledge.
Whatever the name, the idea is a good start. The new year has begun and the festival visits are done. Families turn back to work and everyday life with prayers for a prosperous and honest year.
New account books and fresh starts
In Gujarati business tradition, Labh Pancham is often the first working day after the Diwali and new year break. Many business owners reopen that morning with a small puja for the new account books, known as chopda pujan, writing "Shubh" and "Labh" on the first page. Some families do this on Diwali night instead and simply reopen on Labh Pancham. Practice differs between families, so follow what your elders do.
The same spirit carries beyond business. Many families see Labh Pancham as a good day to begin something new: a venture, a home, or a piece of gold that will stay in the family for years.
Buying gold on Labh Pancham
For families who missed Dhanteras, or who would rather avoid the pre-Diwali rush, Labh Pancham is a welcome second chance to buy gold. It is also a natural day for a business owner to mark a new year of trading with something to wear.
- A coin or small piece. A small gold or silver coin is a simple way to mark the day. Call ahead and ask whether we have coins in stock.
- A pendant with meaning. Lakshmi, Ganesh and Om pendants are popular for new beginnings. Our post on symbols on gold jewellery explains what each one stands for.
- Bangles. Many families add a pair each festival season. Bring a bangle that already fits so we can match the size. See our 22ct gold bangles.
- A ring or chain for the year ahead. A plain 22ct band or chain is easy to wear every day. Browse our 22ct gold jewellery.
Every gold piece we sell is stamped for purity: 916 for 22ct, 750 for 18ct and 375 for 9ct. Our guide on how to check gold purity explains the numbers.
Shopping from overseas
If you live in Australia, New Zealand, the USA or Canada, a parent or cousin in Fiji can shop for you on the day. Send them photos of styles you like, the purity, the size and a rough budget, and ask them to call us first so we can check stock. We sell in store only, so the piece can wait in Fiji until your next trip home. Our guide to buying gold in Fiji as a Fijian living overseas covers the rest.
