If you're visiting Fiji on a non-Fiji passport, you can get the VAT back on jewellery you buy here. Shreeji Jewellers is an approved retailer under the Tourist VAT Refund Scheme (licence TVRS059), and it's simple to do.

This guide follows the scheme as described by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), checked in October 2026. Rules can change, so it's worth a quick look at the FRCS site before you travel.

Who qualifies

You can claim if you are:

  • aged 13 or over
  • living in a country other than Fiji
  • travelling on a non-Fiji passport

Fiji citizens are not eligible, even if they live overseas. People working in Fiji on a work visa are not eligible either.

The conditions

  • Spend FJ$500 or more in total, VAT included, at approved retailers. It can be spread across several purchases and shops.
  • Buy within 2 months of leaving Fiji.
  • Keep pieces unused. Jewellery worn in Fiji doesn't qualify, so keep new pieces in their box until you leave.

How much you save

Fiji's VAT rate is 12.5%. Because shelf prices include VAT, the VAT part is about 11.1% of the price you pay. For example:

Price you pay VAT included in it
FJ$900 FJ$100
FJ$1,800 FJ$200
FJ$4,500 FJ$500

These are the most the VAT component can be; FRCS sets the amount actually refunded.

Ask for Form 7 when you buy

You claim with Form 7, which we issue at the time of purchase.

  1. Tell us you want to claim the VAT refund before we finalise the sale.
  2. Show your passport.
  3. Check that your name and passport number are correct on Form 7.
  4. Keep Form 7 with your receipt.

Claiming at Nadi International Airport

  1. Jewellery in your checked bag: visit the TVRS counter before check-in.
  2. Jewellery in your carry-on: visit the TVRS counter after passport control.
  3. Show your passport, Form 7, receipts and the jewellery.
  4. You'll receive a payment voucher.
  5. Take the voucher to the Westpac or BSP counter, which pays the refund.

Carry-on is usually easiest for jewellery. Allow a little extra time at the airport. Once you've claimed, the pieces travel with you.

Claiming VAT on a purchase from Shreeji Jewellers

Bring your passport when you come in and tell us at the start that you'd like to claim, so Form 7 can be issued with the sale. If you'd like to wear a piece while you're in Fiji, just tell us and we'll leave it off the form.
